Naturalist-Guided Whale Watching

Daily: December 26 through March 29, 2009

Scripps naturalists will be on twice-daily cruises to point out gray whales migrating past San Diego on their roundtrip journey from the Bering Sea to Baja California, Mexico's breeding grounds. Be on the lookout for all marine life sightings that may include seals, sea lions, dolphins, migrating birds, and more. Naturalists will also have gray whale biofacts to show-and-tell during the cruise. Refreshments can be purchased onboard. Bring warm clothing and your binoculars for a memorable whale watching experience aboard a San Diego Harbor Excursion vessel, leaving daily from San Diego Harbor.

Extended Whale Watching Expeditions to Baja California, Mexico

For a longer and more intimate whale adventure, travel down to Baja's beautiful Magdalena Bay with Andiamo Tours Mexico and Birch Aquarium to see the gray whale up-close and personal. Hop aboard a guided boat for an up-close encounter of these magnificent creatures in their temporary stop over grounds. Travel the scenic desert coast of Baja California on this 3-night and 4-day trip. Included are visits to a pristine salt marsh, the Vizcaino Desert, and cave paintings.

Whale Watching Safari (5 Days)
February 18 - 22 and March 25 - 29

Enjoy double the fun and encounter gray whales and their calves in two separate lagoons, San Ignacio Lagoon and Ojo de Liebre (famed Scammons Lagoon Sanctuary). This five-day excursion travels along the scenic desert coast of Baja with visits to Ensenada, San Quintin, San Ignacio, and Guerrero Negro. Other highlights include drives through a natural reserve in an enormous salt marsh with migratory birds, and a cave with rock art.

Whale Watching Expedition (6 Days)
