NATIONAL OCEAN SCIENCES BOWL (NOSB)

High school teachers—gather your most interested science students and join Birch Aquarium at Scripps for the National Ocean Sciences Bowl competition. Birch Aquarium and Scripps Institution of Oceanography will host the 14th annual La Jolla Grunion Bowl on February 26, 2011. The first place team from our Southern California regional competition will advance to the national competition at Texas A&M University in Galveston, Texas, on April 29-May 1, 2011.

Want to learn more about NOSB?  Come to our open house on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. We’ll take a walk along the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography pier, take part in a squid dissection, observe and sort local plankton, and meet other students interested in the ocean sciences. This event is open to all interested high school students, teachers, and parents. Please RSVP at 858-534-7336 or enroll online.  If enrolling online, select the high school you are attending. If you do not have an account yet, click on "Apply Now" to sign up.

For more information on the competition or advice about how to assemble a team, please visit the aquarium's NOSB page; the Consortium for Ocean Leadership website, nosb.org; or call the aquarium’s NOSB Regional Coordinator at 858-534-5208.
